The resulting 18.5% dairy ration should be fed with excellent quality cereal silage and legume forage. Feed the 18.5% dairy ration at a rate of approximately 1 kg for every 3 - 4 kg of
milk produced to a maximum of 12.78 kg, as shown in the table below. The age, stage of lactation, quality and intake of forage and body condition of the cow will determine the exact
amount of 18.5% dairy ration required.
For Total Mixed Ration (TMR), the 18.5% dairy ration can be mixed with 50% forages on a dry matter basis and the resulting TMR can be fed at a maximum of 25.56 kg per cow per day. Cows
should always have free choice access to salt and clean drinking water.
